Eine Frau ruft im örtlichen Krankenhaus an: „Guten Tag. Ich würde gerne mit der Person sprechen, die Auskunft über den Zustand Ihrer Patienten gibt. Ich möchte in Erfahrung bringen, ob es einer bestimmten Patientin besser geht, ob der Verlauf normal ist oder ob sich ihr Zustand verschlechtert hat.“
Die Stimme am anderen Ende der Leitung fragt: „Wie lautet denn der Name der Patientin und ihre Zimmernummer?“
„Sarah Cohen in Zimmer 302“, antwortet die Anruferin.
„Einen Moment bitte, ich verbinde Sie mit der Schwesternstation.“
„Schwesternstation 3-A, was kann ich für Sie tun?“
„Guten Tag, ich würde mich gerne nach dem Zustand von Frau Sarah Cohen in Zimmer 302 erkundigen.“
„Einen Augenblick, ich schaue kurz in ihre Krankenakte... Oh ja! Frau Cohen geht es wirklich ausgezeichnet! Sie hat heute schon zwei volle Mahlzeiten zu sich genommen, ihr Blutdruck ist stabil, die aktuellen Blutwerte sind völlig unauffällig, in zwei Stunden wird das Herzmonitoring beendet und wenn die Besserung so anhält, wird Dr. Weiss sie am Dienstagmittag nach Hause entlassen.“
„Gott sei Dank!“, ruft die Frau begeistert. „Das ist ja wunderbar! Was für fantastische Neuigkeiten!“
Die Krankenschwester schmunzelt: „Nach Ihrer großen Begeisterung zu urteilen, sind Sie sicher eine nahe Verwandte oder eine sehr enge Freundin von Frau Cohen?“
„Nicht ganz“, antwortet die Frau trocken. „Ich bin Sarah Cohen aus Zimmer 302! Mir sagt hier im Krankenhaus ja sonst niemand was!“
A woman called a local hospital. "Hello," she said. "I'd like to talk with the person who gives the information regarding your patients. I'd like to find out if the patient is getting better, doing as expected, or getting worse."
The voice on the other end of the line said, "What is the patient's name and room number?"
"Sarah Cohen in Room 302," the woman answered.
"I will connect you with the nursing station."
"3-A Nursing Station. How can I help you?"
"I would like to know the condition of Sarah Cohen in Room 302."
"Just a moment, let me look at her records. Oh, yes. Mrs. Cohen is doing very well. In fact, she's had two full meals, her blood pressure is fine, her blood work just came back as normal, she's going to be taken off the heart monitor in a couple of hours, and if she continues this improvement, Dr. Weiss is going to send her home Tuesday at noon."
"Thank G‑d!" the woman said. "That's wonderful! What fantastic news!"
The nurse said, "From your enthusiasm, I take it you must be a family member or a very close friend!"
"Not exactly," the woman said. "I'm actually the patient myself; I'm Sarah Cohen in 302! Nobody here tells me anything."
